Abstract
The significance of the sermon of hazrat Fatimah lies not only of its political aspect, its religious and ethical marif and teachings are also of an extraordinary importance. This sermon has been recorded by narrators of ahadith with various isnad. This paper is not concerned with examining the sasnad of the sermon, rather it focuses on presenting the religious and ethical maarif. We have divided this sermon on the basis of the religious and ethical teachings into some categories. According to this typology, the Lady Fatimah discussed the following topics in her sermon: (i) tawhid: including justice of God, His characteristics; the philosophy of creation etc. (ii) prophethood: the satatus and characteristics of prophets; the prophethood of hazrat Muhammad and the social condition of the people before it; and his demise. (iii) Obligations: the responsibilities of the Muslims, the attachment with the Book of God, the laws of religion and their philosophy. (iv) Branches of the religion: faith, alms tax, fasting, pilgrimage, the imamate of the Ahl al-Bait, jihad, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. (v) Ethics: patient, good behavior with parents, the maintenance of good relations with relatives; avoiding of drinking wine, stealing, and polytheism. (vi) Politics: the view against government. (vii) Ahl al-Bait: the extraordinary sympathy of the Prophet for Ahl al-Bait, the sacrifices of the Prophet before Islam and after it, the sacrifies made by Ali for islam. In sum, the noble Lady has presented the religious and ethical maarif in a logical and convincing way in which there is guidance for the ummah.
