Abstract
There are two ways for the people of the post-Prophethood era to get acquainted with the personality and life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) viz. Quran and the Household of the Prophet (PBUH) and the sayings of his companions. Imam Ali (AS) is the most prominent personality of the Prophet’s Household who remained with him always. Imam Ali (AS) witnessed the first divine revelation on the Prophet (PBUH) and, after his demise, he descended him in his grave. The Prophet (PBUH) nurtured Imam Ali (AS) with love and care as he took him to his home in his childhood. Only Imam Ali (AS), therefore, can introduce the Prophet (PBUH) to us in a best and comprehensive way. In Nahj al-Balagah the Imam has sketched the life of the Prophet (PBUH), from his genealogy and characteristics to his sociality, his mission and his endeavourers in guiding people towards light, in a best manner.
